### Bangalore, INDIA:Vedic Mathematics

I am B.N. Bhaskar, Maths teacher, Vikasa High School,Ramamurthy Nagar,Bangalore-16.

I have studied Vedic Mathematics to some extent and I am teaching easy methods of it to my students.
I came to know that Swamy Bharathi krishna thirtha Maharaj, Shankaracharya of Puri has written 16 simple Suthras for different calculations.

I. Finding the Square of a Number Ending with 5

To find the square of a number ending with five, it is very easy.
eg. To find the square of 35

The first part is 3(3+1)=3x4=12

The second part is 5 square i.e 25

Similarly, Square of 45 is 4x5=20 and 5x5=25 i.e 2025

II.Squaring Numbers

Meaning: Whatever the extent of its deficiency, lessen it further to that very extent; and also set up the square of that deficiency.

This sutra is a corollary of the Nikhilam sutra.

Consider a simple example 92

Step 1 : Consider the nearest base (here 10).

Step 2 : As 9 has a deficiency of 1 (10 - 9 = 1), we should decrease it further by 1, and set down our L HS of the Answer as '8'.

Step 3 : On the R HS put the square of the deficiency (here 1).

We get 92 = 81.

Try 8 square

III. Multiplication

Let's multiply 102 and 102
The two numbers are close to 100.
So, let the base be 100.
102 is 2 more than 100 and 103 is 3 more than 100.
102....+2
103....+3
