Aline's Math Interview

It seems like my mom uses Math every minute of the day, as unbelievable as that may seem! She invited me to
join her for a regular day, and here is the result:

Her use of Math starts in the morning while taking the car out of the garage. She notices that she’s almost out of
gas. She checks her purse to figure out how much money she can spend on gas.

She stops at a gas station, then off to the supermarket. She fills her cart, arrives at the cashier, who informs her
that she owes $110 .Oh God! After stopping for gas, she was left with only $100! Where is the checkbook?
She must have left it on the counter, in the kitchen… Now what should she do? Oh well, she does a few quick
mental calculations (additions and subtractions,) and decides on a few items to return.

Back to the house for a new recipe of a delicious new cake. It is a battle between the measures of spoons,
grams and cups. A simple mistake in one of the measurements could result in a disaster! Just imagine ½ a cup of
salt instead of ½ a teaspoon!!!

Next it’s time to feed my dog. I have a beautiful German Shepherd who happens to be a little on the “huge”
side. So she must measure about 800 grams of dog food for him. (He’s on a special diet!)

It’s finally time for her to exercise. She goes out for her usual two kilometers of jogging! By the time she’s back
home, she’s dead tired.  But her day is not over yet! Back to her room she starts writing a check for the school
while thinking about how much spaghetti she should cook for dinner, etc…

So much Math, so much counting and measuring… There is one thing she never counts though, and that is how
many kisses she will give me tonight!

The End
