Math Evaluation from Petru Dumitru, Focsani, Romania

Hola Kristin and Enid,

I'm sending you our last Math homework for this year. It was a great pleasure to work with you and with all friends around the world. I wish to express our full apreciation for all Project's activities coordinated by you.

1. As a teacher, what benefits have you found from this project?

It was for the first time for us when Math was discovered using network. I think that is an opportunity to share our preoccupations among all participants. That's why I and my students were connected with all Math hot subjects from all around the world. To change our ideas with our colleagues is the best motive to vivify our imagination.

2. What benefits have resulted for your students?

First of all our participation in this project created to my students a new responsability resulting from the activities proposed by the coordinators. All students' contributions was the best "life" exercise about to search, to systematize, to classify, to analyse, to synthetize or to integrate.

Students learned:

-to work together in a coordinated effort;
-any work must have a finality;
-a lot of links between Math and society;
-to respect the oppinions of all members of the group, like a good democracy lesson;
-how can they have involving the family, the school and finally the society in their works.

3. How were you able to involve students in sharing information and making decisions?

The steps of the project have created a special link between me and my students; there was a favorable climate of the work who was finally reflected in the classroom. I have encouraged the students to give significance to all activities. I organized my group and we talk all project's topics, step by step. Each students had distinct task. The final point of any task was the decision. Some students have need to the oppinion of the group. It was very important for they to share it with all, maybe
they are 14 years only. The most important moment of the activity was the days when they had presented their conclusions.  Because the project have characterized by the preponderant practically activities, all informations and experiences was shared with the rest of the group like a "great discover".

 4. What other ideas/suggestions do you and your your students have for future projects?

We are proposing to keep the same practical project idea for the next year school.

5. Other comments

The Project "Connecting Math to Our Lives" was is a good opportunity for making Math more friendly as a rule for the students. Thanks for your time and I hope we are meeting again next autumn.
