Reading is an important step in life for pupils.
The Team Math in Our Lives from School No.10 Romania tried to make a study on this issue. That is primarily focussed on the phenomenon of reading among pupils and who borrow books from the school library. The study tries to explain which are the readers preferences and the kind of books they prefer.

Our school has about 1698 pupils and a library that contains more than 25,000 volumes. The study of the tickets' library shows that many of our colleagues visit the school library twice or three times a week. Some of the pupils go to the school library once a month or every two or three months.
It has been noticed that the primary school pupils prefer books for children and less science books. That is quite a normal fact as they have not got in touch with science at their age, yet. Pupils in their first school year contact the school library when they already know to read and write, namely in their last 2 or 3 school months.
Pupils generally prefer literature books. The secondary school pupils are also interested in science books. The 7th and 8th form pupils read less than in the previous school years.
How could we explain such a phenomenon? It may be the specific preoccupation for the Grammar school admission exam that will take place at the end of the 8th form. Equally they may also be preoccupied to have more fun at this age.
The school librarian told us that the number of the readers is continuously decreasing since 1989. What is the right explanation? The mass media information is growing on since 1989. Reading as modality of information and formation is now in concurrence with handy radio and TV broadcastings. Lack of reading as a simple culture exercise can be noticed in any other subject where this activity is a dominant e.g: History, Geography and others. The students have already succeeded to gather their favorite books in their personal bookcase by now.
