MALAYSIA: Geometry report from teacher/tutor Ah-Choo Koo and the students (ages 13-16) she is working with at four schools in Malaysia:

1. SMK Dengkil, Selangor
2. SMK Bukit Baru, Melaka
3. SMS Muzaffar Syah, Melaka
4. Maahad Tahfiz Az-Zahrah, Selangor.

Hello, this is an introduction from a teacher/student from Malaysia. My name is AC (Ah Choo-Koo). I am a tutor working at Multimedia University, Malaysia. Currently, I am working on an educational activity on "Discovering Geometry". I called it as "Diari Geometri". I have invited some secondary school students (from different location) in my country to join this project. At the end of this project, we will produce some research contents of geometry and its relation with our real lives experiences.

Sincerely,

AC & A group of students from Malaysia.

Please view at the photographs that we took in our discovering geometry project.

We have found that there are a lot of reflectional symmetry phenomenon in our real lives, for example in our nature, and also in architectural design. Reflectional symmetry is also known as line symmetry, bilateral symmetry, or mirror symmetry. The reflection line is called the line of symmetry. Some reflectional symmetry figures contain one or more lines of symmetry.

Obviously, all kind of living beings have reflectional symmetry on their figure, either the whole body or part of the body (see the giraffe images).

Reflectional symmetry is also part of the guide in architectural design. For example, the structure of the roof, and the buidings, or other parts of building, we can always see rotational symmetry in it.

Do you know that what are the other types of symmetry? Yes, they are "point symmetry" and "rotational symmetry". Can you find them in your real lives?

Sinceramente,
