Presentación de clase de los estudiantes de 6to grado (11-12 años) de las clases de matemáticas de la Prof. Font. Presentación por Cristine, Joseph, Chifon, Kewanda, Cynthia, Kristina, Aqil, Lenny, Angel, Erick y Anna.   ¡Hola a todos los participantes del proyecto! ¿Han estado alguna vez en la ciudad de Nueva York? Somos estudiantes de la Escuela Intermedia Crossroads. Nos hemos unido al proyecto un poco tarde, pero estamos felices de poder ser partícipes. Tenemos entre 11 y 12 años de edad y estamos en sexto grado. Hay alrededor de 200 estudiantes en nuestra escuela entre los grados 6to, 7mo y 8vo. Hay 60 estudiantes de 6to grado que van a participar de este proyecto. Nuestros pasatiempos son jugar ajedrez y baloncesto. También nos gusta bailar la sacudida de Harlem (es sacudiendo los hombros) y estar con nuestros amigos. También nos gustan músicas como el rap, el reggae y el rock. Nos gusta jugar juegos de mesa y también juegos de patio como caza de varones y caza de féminas. Nos gusta divertirnos en nuestra escuela. Nuestras clases son Matemáticas, Humanidades, Ciencia, Drama, Yoga, Arte, Charla de chicos, Charla de chicas, Biología de campo, Baile y Aeróbicos. Esta escuela nos ayuda a hacer lo que queremos y no tan sólo lo que se espera de nosotros. Tenemos muchas oportunidades en nuestra escuela como actividades luego del periodo escolar del día como ajedrez, baile, baloncesto y competencias de talentos (talent show). A veces tomamos clases con los estudiantes de 8vo y 7mo grado y por lo tanto todos somos considerados iguales. Creo que esta es una buena escuela porque todos ocupamos el mismo lugar sin competencias por sobrepasar al otro y sin nadie sentirse menos inteligente que otro. Entendemos que nuestra escuela no es ni racista ni sexista ni tampoco homofóbica. Tenemos estudiantes de herencia puertorriqueña, dominicana, asíatica, africana y del Medio Oriente. Aquí en la escuela Crossroads amamos a nuestros maestros. La Prof. Font es nuestra maestra de matemáticas y estamos recibiendo una buena educación a través de ella. Además en nuestra escuela tenemos un Coro maravilloso y, ¿saben quien lo dirige? ¡La Prof. Font! Los maestros nos dejan hablar y decirles cómo son nuestras vidas, qué pensamos y qué sentimos. Cuando nos equivocamos ellos nos lo expresan de una manera en que no nos lastiman. En esta escuela no somos racistas porque "somos una familia." En nuestra escuela tenemos un consejero que es un maestro que nos guía a través de nuestro tiempo en la escuela. Nos gustan las matemáticas. Nuestros maestros toman las matemáticas con calma para que todos entendamos. El curso no es ni muy dífícil ni muy fácil, es perfecto. Recientemente hablábamos en clase sobre cómo algunos países son más ricos que otros y usan más energía. También hemos estado hablando sobre la cantidad de población que tienen los distintos países. Hemos aprendido que nosotros en Norte América somos los que más dinero tenemos y los que más energía usamos, pero no tenemos la población más grande. Esto es un detalle que se nos hace extraño e incorrecto. Nos preguntábamos qué pensarían otros estudiantes sobre este asunto. Nos gusta vivir en Nueva York. Nueva York tiene mucho tráfico y en las mañanas cuando uno se prepaa para ir a la escuela toma mucho tiempo llegar de un lugar al otro. Venimos a la escuela en el autobús, en el tren o caminando. La mayoría de nosotros ha vivido en Nueva York toda su vida y opinamos que si algo malo le sucede a Nueva York sería muy triste porque Nueva York es un lugar especial para vivir. Introduction by Cristine, Joseph, Chifon, Kewanda, Cynthia, Kristina, Aqil, Lenny, Angel, Erick and Anna.   Hello to everyone in the project! Have you ever been to New York City? We are students from Crossroads Middle School. We are joining the project a little late, but we are glad to be here. We are 11 and 12 years old and we are in sixth grade. There are 200 students in our school, in 6th, 7th ,and 8th grade. We have 60 sixth graders that will participate in this project. Our hobbies are basketball, and we like chess. We also like dancing, the Harlem shake (its shaking your shoulders), and hanging out with friends. We also like music, like rap, reggae, rock and roll. We like to play games like board games and games that you play outside like man hunt and woman hunt. At our school we like to have fun. Our classes are math, humanities, science and we also have drama, yoga, art, boy talk, womens talk, field biology, dance, and aerobics. This school helps us do what we want, not just what other people expect of us. We have a lot of opportunities in our school like after school activities like chess, dance and basketball, and talent show. We get to take classes with the 8th and 7th graders so we are all equal. I think this is a good school because we all are at the same place and no one is in front of each other and no one feels less intelligent and there is not a lot of competition. We think that our school is non racist and non sexist and it is also not homophobic. We have students of many heritages like Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. At Crossroads school we love our teachers. Ms. Font is our math teacher and with her we get a good education. And we have a wonderful chorus at out school, and guess who conducts it? Ms. Font! The teachers let us talk and tell them how our life is and what we think and what we are feeling. And we get something wrong they try to say it in a way that doesn't hurt us. The people in this school are not racist, because "we are family." In our school we have an advisory and an advisor is a teacher that guides you through the school We love math. Our teachers take math slowly so that we will all get it. It is not too hard or too easy, it is perfect. Recently we were talking about how some countries have more wealth than other countries and they use more energy. And we have been talking about the population that all the countries have. We have learned that we in North America have the most money, and use the most energy, but we don't have the most people, which is kind of weird and wrong to us. We are wondering what other students might think about this issue. We like living in New York. New York has a lot of traffic and in the morning when you get ready to go to school, it takes a long a time to get from place to place. We come to school on the bus, or the train, or some of us walk to school. Most of us have lived in New York our whole lives and we think if something every happens to New York it would be very bad because New York is a very special place to live.
