Connecting Math to Our Lives Math Introductions 2002-2003   PERU: Presentación de los profesores Vladimir Vallejos y Rhoda Ulloa y sus estudiantes de 11-12 años del Colegio Lord Byron School en Lima   Hola amigos de "Conectando la matemática con la vida" quienes les saludan somos alumnos del 1 año de secundaria del colegio "LORD BYRON SCHOOL " - La Molina - Lima – Perú. A nosotros nos da mucho gusto participar en este proyecto en conjunto con alumnos de otros países. Estamos muy motivados e interesados con este proyecto por que nos va a permitir conocer el modo de vida , costumbres de otros países y compartir información y estrategias de trabajo. Somos un grupo muy unido y nos gusta participar y colaborar . Somos un grupo activo , dinámico. Nosotros contamos con el apoyo de nuestros padres para cualquier actividad . El salón está conformado por 29 alumnos, los que nos dividimos en dos grupos para las clases de matemática . Un grupo trabaja con miss Rhoda Ulloa ( A ) y el otro grupo con el profesor Vladimir Vallejos. En el proyecto estamos participando todo el grado. En el salón hay 16 niños y 13 niñas. La mayoría de nosotros vive en los alrededores del colegio que está ubicado en el distrito de La Molina , en el que podríamos decir que tenemos sol todo el año. Los profesores responsables del proyecto son Miss Rhoda Ulloa y Prof. Vladimir Vallejos quienes nos motivaron e incentivaron a participar. Una de las partes del trabajo de investigación fue que pensáramos en un mensaje y nos pareció mejor el de nuestro compañero Rodrigo Alarcón, el cual queremos compartir con ustedes: "Si tienes una caída no te rindas, levántate y camina hacia el éxito". Nuestro país es tan rico en climas, lo cual hace posible la diversidad de flora y fauna. Nosotros tenemos tres regiones geogrñáficas claramente diferenciadas. La costa, que se ubica a orillas del mar. La sierra que va desde los 500 hasta más de 6 000 metrso sobre el nivel del mar y la selva que se encuentra en el flanco oriental de la cordillera de los andes que atravieza nuestro país. Nosotros vivimos en el departamento de Lima ( región costa) que se encuentra a 250 msnm. El distrito donde vivimos se llama La Molina y ahí se encuentra nuestro colegio. La Molina es un distrito muy bonito, con abundantes áreas verdes y sol casi todo el año. Nuestro país se encuentra ubicado desde los 0º 01'48'' de latitud sur hasta los 18º21'03'' de latitud sur. De este a oeste desde los 60º 39' 27'' de latitud oeste hasta los 81º19'34,5'' de latitud oeste. Esperamos que esta información les ayude a ubicar nuestro país. Bueno, les enviamos los datos de la primera actividad: "Nuestra Lista de Compras" en el que hemos consignado productos que compramos con más frecuencia, hemos determinado el precio promedio. Los precios son de supermercados que están en la zona donde vivimos. It is our pleasure to participate in this project along with other students throughout the world. We are very motivated and interested to work in this project because it will be an opportunity for us to meet people from other cultures in which we hope to learn about their philosophy in life, their customs, as well as share job strategies information. As a group, we are very united and cooperative. As you can see, we are a very dynamically active group. We also depend on the support of our parents for any activity that is related to this project. The room holds 29 students; therefore, we divide ourselves into two big groups for the math classes. One group will work with Miss Rhoda Ulloa, and the other group will work with professor Vladimir Vallejos. In this project, the whole class grade is working and collaborating and we consist of 16 male students and 13 female students. The majority of us live in the surrounding areas of this institute that it is located in the District of Molina, and in which we can say that climatically we get warm sunny days year round. The professors who are responsible for this project are Miss Rhoda Ulloa and Professor Vladimir Vallejos, who are also the people that motivates and challenges us to participate. One of the various jobs in this research project was to come up with a message, and we thought that our classmate - Rodrigo Alarcón's message was the best which we would like to share with you. His message stated "If you take a fall, don't quit. Get up and continue walk toward the goal". Right now our country is so delightful in climate that it makes it possible for diversity to exist in the flora and fauna. We have three geographic regions that clearly mark their differences. On the coast are the seashores. The mountain range that can go from 500 meters all the way to 6,000 meters over the sea level and the forest ground can be found on the eastern flank of the Andes mountain range that runs across our country. We live in the department of Lima (coast region) that is located at 250 meters above sea level. The district in which we live is called La Molina and that is where our college is located. La Molina is a wonderful district with abundant vegetation, and the sun's warmth almost throughout the entire year. Our country is located from latitude 0° 01'48" south to 18° 21'03" south. Our current first activity or task is to take care of "Our Shopping List" that will follow, in which we felt were the products that we will most frequently use.
