What Mathematics Means to Me
By Cory Klauder

Mathematics can be looking at a clock or a watch to make sure you get to school on time. Math is used when we follow a recipe to cook our favorite breakfast. In gym class we measure and record our speed, flexibility, and strength. When we pay for our lunch, we have to know how to count our change. At the doctor's office, the doctor uses special instruments to measure our height, weight, and temperature. When we go shopping we have to watch for sales so we can spend our allowance wisely. When we're at school and we're doing a math problem, we have to know how to solve it. There are some ways we use mathematics everyday.

What Mathematics Means to Me
By Edward Schendnelos

Math is very important to me. When I am at school I use math. I use math for every subject in school. For example, in science I need to measure things. I use math when I write because I need to measure how much paper I will need. When I am reading, I need to know what page number I am on. When I get home I use math by keeping score of sports games, for example, seeing how far I can shoot my B.B.'s. When I build, I see how many supplies I need. When I cook and bake I need to measure ingredients.

What Mathematics Means to Me

I use mathematics everyday. Mathematics means getting up for school on time, measuring pancake butter for breakfast, counting how many goals I have in soccer games and knowing how much time I have to play before going to bed. I also use math by counting money, weighing myself and to do projects with paper to know how long it has to be. I use mathematics to try to get good grades in school. I sometimes help my mom with her math when she needs help sewing, cooking and making her tin-men. I use math when I call my friends on the phone. I use math when I count my money to buy stuff at the mall. I even use math to count how many sentences I have in my paragraph to get an A+.

We use math in many ways in our daily lives. In cooking, we need to know how to measure and combine ingredients. We also need to know the temperature. When playing sports, we need to keep the score and know how many quarters or innings there are in the game. Also, when we buy things, we need to use money to pay for it. We need to know how much something costs compared to how much money we have. If we look on the Internet or in the newspaper, we will find the temperature in many cities. When we're going on vacation on traveling somewhere, we need to know how many miles it's going to take to get there or how many total miles we have traveled. We need to know what time it is a lot during the day or how much time we have left. That's why we need to know how to tell time with clocks and watches. There are many ways that we use math everyday, but these are the ones that I use the most.

What Mathematics Means to Me
By Nikolas Plante

Mathematics means to me a source of helpfulness in my life. During the holidays I have a budget of how much money I have, to buy gifts. Saving money to buy toys is a way of using math too. A calendar is another way I use math. It helps me count days down to a special day or the 12 months of the year. Geometrical shapes help me with art and engineering. Math helps me with recipes because they tell me how much to measure and what things to put in the mix. Math helps with cooking because in recipes it tells me how many degrees to set the oven or how many minutes to set the microwave. Scales help me weigh myself and other things. When you play cards you need to know which cards are which so you don't get cheated. That is how I use Mathematics as a source of helpfulness.
