The
students in Anna Piñero's class examined gender issues
by compiling statistics in November 1998 based on the number
of men and women that were subjects of the first page articles
in daily local and national newspapers. They exchanged these
statistics with their partner class in Romania who conducted
a parallel investigation.

Newspapers and Statistics
-

- From the 6th grade students at Escola Lavinia, Barcelona,
Spain
-
We collected three daily newspapers during November 1998: La Vanguardia,
El Periódico and El País. We selected the graphic news in
the first page and we observed whether, men, women, or both appear in
these news items.
We have seen that women don't appear much at all, just two in Policy,
and one in Other; men appear more, especially in Policy and Sports.
We've also observed that women and men, both, appear in Policy, nine,
and in Society, nineteen.
