Introduction from Samira
Nicloas, a Grade 11 student
at the Universal School of Lebanon.
Hello everyone! My name is Samira and I am a student at the
Universal School of Lebanon in Lebanon. I am
the only student in eleventh grade. This is only the second year
that my school has been in operation. There are
only about 85 students from the preschool up to 11th grade. It is
located in a small village in northern Lebanon
called Bterram. This small village can be found on the globe at
latitude: 34 21 North and longitude: 35 49 East.
The approach at education is very modern in that our lessons are
facilitated through doing experiments, visiting
places, and working on the computer and the Internet. For example,
in science I studied about the weather and
then I visited a weather station with my teacher to see how the
weather is forecasted. I take 8 subjects in all
which totals to 35 periods a week, 7 periods a day. Out of the 35
periods, 7 of them are Math. I am studying
Algebra II, and right now I'm learning about conic sections. I am
also preparing for the SAT test which I will
take at the end of this year.
I enjoy my school very much and am enjoying working on various
IEARN projects. Since math is my favorite
subject, I look forward to starting to work on the math project,
and to working with different people. I will soon
be posting my observations on how math is used in everyday life,
and what math skills are needed in different
situations.

Hola a todos! Mi nombre es Samira y soy estudiante en la Escuela
Universal el Líbano en el Líbano. Soy la
única estudiante en undécimo grado. Apenas es el segundo año es
que mi escuela ha estado operando. Hay
aproximadamente 85 estudiantes desde Pre-escolar hasta undécimo
grado. La escuela está ubicada en un
pequeño pueblo al norte en el Líbano. El pueblito se llama
Bterram. Este pequeño pueblo se halla en el globo
terráqueo en la latitud 34,21 Norte y longitud 35,49 Este.
El alcance educativo es moderno en el sentido de que nuestras
lecciones se nos facilitan a través de
xperimentos, visitando lugares y trabajando con la computadora y
el Internet. Por ejemplo, en la clase de
Ciencia estudié sobre el ambiente y la meteorología y luego
visité una estación de meteorología con mi profesor
para ver cómo se pronostica el tiempo. Yo tomo 8 materias que
totalizan a 35 clases semanales, 7 clases por
día. De los 35 periodos de clase, 7 son de Matemáticas. Estoy
estudiando Algebra II y actualmente estoy
aprendiendo sobre secciones cónicas. Además me estoy preparando
para la prueba SAT que pienso tomar a
fines de este año.
Disfruto mucho de mi escuela y me gusta estar trabajando en varios
proyectos de I*EARN. Como las
Matemáticas son mi materia preferida estoy ansiosa de poder
comenzar a trabajar en el proyecto de las
matemáticas. También estoy ansiosa de tener la oportunidad de
poder trabajar con diversas personas. Pronto
estaré publicando mis observaciones sobre cómo las matemáticas
se utilizan en el diario vivir, y qué destrezas
matemáticas son necesarias en diversas situaciones.
